RC Pro Texas Series, Round 4!
A long time friend came to stay at the AutoModia headquarters out in Katy this past weekend. He was participating in an RC car tournament out here and needed a place to crash. Of course he invited me along to come watch (and suffer with him in the heat for a while) and I was pretty excited to see some competitive RC cars running around. Man it was hot though…but that’s Houston for you.
I was following Aaron Royston and his RC toys that were WAY faster than any cheap RC car I owned as a kid (lol). I can think back to my awesome hovercraft and Back to the Future DeLorean replica that I used to own and there is no way they would have survived jump one…at all.
What I did come to find out was that these guys have a lot of fun and are really competitive at the same time. Some guys were racing 3-5 cars in as many different classes as they could handle. Enthusiasm for RC cars and trucks covered a wide range of age groups from 7 to 70 and everything in between. It was pretty cool to see how each age group got along and competed with each other.
Each class was basically broken down into Electric vs. Gas and Truck vs. Buggie. And these things were damn fast. I could barely keep up once they caught traction on the longer straights as some cars reached 50+mph and probably more than that. Hey, I don’t own a speed gun (lol).
I was unable to cover everything due to having a few other things to take care of that day but I did get quite a few pictures. Please enjoy them and if you have any questions or would like pictures of your own car please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org .
